Boy Scout Troop 172 About
Loyalty Park is Sumner's oldest park and used to be part of a hops farm. Today, some of the largest and oldest trees in Sumner shade a whimsical playground and numerous picnic benches. There is a basketball court and plenty of open space to walk, jog or otherwise admire this lovely park that seems to be from another time. The land was donated by L.F. Thompson, one of Sumner's founders. He owned 160 acres of farmland that was destroyed during the aphid disease of 1892-1893, and he donated it shortly thereafter. The land remained unkempt and covered in weeds until about 1914, when the city began paving the roads and developing the land around the park. The Women's Civic Club of Sumner was an active part of the development process.
