Based in Mason City, Iowa, Cerro Gordo County Safety Department is responsible for administering and communicating safety policies of the county, such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and insurance carrier requirements. The department is also responsible for coordinating the countys insurance package, including property, liability and vehicle insurance. It conducts safety training programs, provides hearing tests to at-risk employees, and implements changes in OSHA laws. Its safety committee reviews changes in laws and requirements, identifies safety needs of employees, reviews insurance matters, and discusses injuries and accidents. The department processes workers compensation, tort liability and general liability claims and lawsuits against the county. It also receives and maintains all new employee physical examinations, drug screens and hearing tests.
