Historically, Long Island's geographical solitude compared to the city gave it an inherent utility for testing flight. Some 240 companies still use the island for manufacturing components related to the aviation industry. The Cradle of Aviation Museum celebrates this history by offering a glimpse into the past, a glimpse forward into space travel as well as a carousel, a Red Planet cafe, Nassau County's only domed IMAX theatre and plenty of activities and programs designed for children and adults to marvel through. Check the museum's Web site for seasonal events and specials.
