The Church of the Transfiguration is across the street from the 580 Marketplace shopping center on East Castro Valley Boulevard. Though it is on a hill with a commanding view and is surrounded by parking, the sheltered grounds provide an intimate feeling, containing many small, private spaces for prayer and contemplation. The large mural behind the altar evokes the Byzantine style. Masses are held weekdays at 8am; Saturdays at 4pm and Sundays at 7:30, 9 and 11am. The Rev. Mario L. Borges is pastor.
In the church's monthly newsletter, Father Tom Verber muses on the generous deeds of his church and school staff, noting that the new principal of Our Lady of Grace School, Ryan Brusco, helped "repaint the walls around the lunch area." Students of the school, writes Father Tom, spent time preparing background scenery for a summer school stage play.
