Williamsburg City Manager is responsible to the elected city council for city government operations. The council comprises five members that elect and appoint the mayor, vice-mayor, city manager, city attorney and clerk of council. The mayor chairs the city council and acts as the official head of the city government. The citys business hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday excluding holidays. Its planning department assists the planning commission and city council in the development of a plan to serve as policy guide for future land development in the city.
