The recreation center, both a community resource and a sports and fitness facility, is the prime location for several events in the city. The Chicago Heights Park District Board of Commissioners meets on the second Monday of each month in the center's social room, which can also be rented out by the public for special events. Resident also get discounts on becoming members.
Since 1992, The City of Wheaton has used water from Lake Michigan, which is treated at Chicago's Jardine Water Purification Plant. The Water Division provides water to the community and maintains 230 miles of water main, 2,400 fire hydrants and 16,400 water services.
The City of Wheaton partnered with the DuPage Water Commission to achieve the goals of the Water Conservation and Protection Program. The program includes a 10-year plan to reduce water use by 10 percent per person. Wheaton residents are encouraged to participate in the program by taking a pledge to "Preserve Every Drop" and conserve water in their bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms and outside areas.

The Illinois Tollway dates back to the 1950s. Based in Downers Grove, the tollway office seeks to promote a safe, efficient highway system and deliver a high degree of service to tollway customers. The tollway is governed by an 11-member board chaired by Paula Wolff, which includes ex-officio members Gov. Pat Quinn and Illinois Secretary of Transportation Gary Hannig. The board meets the last Thursday of each month, except for November and December, when it meets a week earlier.
The Grosse Point Lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark that dates back to 1873. Visitors are allowed to tour the facilities and climb the 141 steps to the top. Due to fire regulations, groups climbing the tower must have no more than 12 people and children under 8 years are not allowed inside. Tours run on Saturdays and Sundays from June to Sept., but the facility is closed on holidays and may close periodically due to extreme heat.
The headquarters location for the Niles Park District, it houses the preschool and the banquet facilities. The golf course is adjacent, and the indoor tennis complex (Tam) and the fitness/track/gymnasium facility (Golfview) are nearby.
The United City of Yorkville Police Dept., led by Chief Richard Hart, employs about two dozen full-time officers. In addition to patrolling, the department provides child safety seat inspections, a disposal program for unused medications, vacation watches and a Citizens Police Academy. It also participates in Crimestoppers and Kendall County TRIAD, which serves senior citizens.
