The Arlington County Government jail records are located on North Courthouse Road, one block from the courthouse metro station. The records are housed in the Arlington Justice Center, which also contains the Arlington Detention Center. It holds records pertaining to arrests and inmates within Arlington County.
Smith was the "Industrial Road Camp" when the county built it in the mid-1920s; prison work gangs toiled for the county road department. County supervisors renamed the jail for a retired sheriff in 2002. Smith recently added more than 600 beds, and more could be on the way.
The department of corrections' state-of-the-art glass facility on Bosley Avenue houses Baltimore County Detention Center, the Pre-trial Services Division and the Alternative Sentencing Division. The facility was renovated and expanded in 2006, much to the chagrin of nearby residents. The expansion consolidated all county correction functions in the same building.
