This courthouse is located in the center of Patchogue, and is one of six courthouses in the five western towns of Suffolk County. It covers civil, criminal, and small claims.
Both children and adults share the opportunity to learn about Long Island marine life at this facility, a 501c3 organization and Suffolk County contract agency. Researchers have helped reinstate Peconic Bay scallops into local waters by growing the shellfish in-house and releasing them into the wild as adults. They also travel to county schools to educate children about unique local underwater animals, such as scallops, clams, oysters and horseshoe crabs--a prehistoric arthropod that still thrives in East End waters.

Situated on 68 acres, Cornell University's Long Island Horticultural Research and Extension Center serves as a resource for farmers throughout the region. The staff leads classes for farmers during winter months, and answers questions and conducts studies during warmer months - all in the name of increasing yield and preserving the environment. Students studying particular fields are hired during summer months to help with studies, though degree programs are not offered at this site. Whether dealing with bug control or irrigation, potatoes or grapes, the LIHREC has been aiding farmers since 1922.
The Lenoir Nature Preserve features several fields and forested areas, as well as a dragonfly pond, butterfly garden and nature center. It's also noted by the Hudson River Audubon Society as a good spot for birdwatching, with a variety of native species including hawks, hummingbirds and various waterfowl. A Westchester County Park Pass is not needed to enter.
Located in East Meadow, Nassau County's Medical Examiner Office is a team of forensic pathologists and other professionals who investigate deaths within the county. The office works with legal and criminal justice officials, providing them with DNA testing facilities and toxicology and histology laboratories.
