Albert H. Schmitt Family Farms has been a family farm for many decades, with its first crop having been potatoes. The current business is owned by Albie and Dottie Schmitt. They have been married for more than 50 years and farming together the entire time. They are each from long lines of farmers: The Schmitts have been farming here since 1853. Dottie Schmitt's maiden name is Harbes, and her family has been farming on Long Island for more than a century.
Together the Schmitts still keep their business growing with their three children and their grandchildren. The farm is located at 6 Bagatelle Road.
East Meadow Farms is a demonstration garden and horticulture center. It is operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE). It offers gardening programs, hosts demonstrations and offers community plots, which are available for use.
