Founded in 1987, the Oregon Department of Corrections is responsible for the management and administration of several adult correctional institutions. The department promotes public safety and assists felons in returning to normal life. It provides crisis intervention, advocacy and family support services to crime victims. The Oregon Department of Corrections also supervises adult offenders who are on probation and parole. In addition, the department offers chemical dependency, substance abuse treatment and counseling services. It provides jail inspection and investigation services. The Oregon Department of Corrections additionally offers employment assistance services to help inmates become productive members of society. The department provides drug testing, assessment, risk management and vocational rehabilitation services.
