Kanab / Utah / United States
The free Little Hollywood Movie Museum reveals how Southern Utah became the back-lot for some of the most spectacular movies ever made in Hollywood. From its beginnings with Tom Mix in Deadwood Coach to the recent Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition photo shoot, Southern Utah defines the landscapes of the American West.
The Little Hollywood Movie Museum , a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt non profit, uses actual movie sets as the centerpiece of its exploration of the stars and stories of how a sleepy little town became a haunt for Hollywood stars. The Rat Pack,- Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin - turned Parry Lodge in Kanab into a private escape from the glitz of Las Vegas. Clint Eastwood used Southern Utah for most of his classic The Outlaw Josey Wales. Kiefer Sutherland used the windmill from the Little Hollywood Museum for his Truth or Consequences NM. John Wayne contributed to mystique with Stagecoach and Charleton Heston evoked the Bible with The Greatest Story Every Told and the wrath of technology with Planet of the Apes. Kanab was also home to classic TV series The Lone Ranger and Gunsmoke.
Kanab is in the center of this natural wonderland - 70 miles from Lake Powell, 80 miles to the Grand Canyon, 30 miles to Zion National Park and 80 miles to Bryce National Park. In between, the scenery remains spectacular with Coyote Buttes, Paria and Coral Pink Sand Dunes among the thousands of eye popping attractions.
The LHMM is on the back lot of the Trading Post at Little Hollywood, a gift shop focused on Made in the USA merchandise, including fair trade Native American Arts and Jewelry, Stetson Hats and Abilene boots. From fine gifts to fun souvenirs Little Hollywood offers a great selection at fair prices.
