Central Institute for the Deaf, also known as CID, is an agency that offers various educational, research, clinical, outreach and community services for deaf and hearing-impaired individuals. Founded in 1914, it administers graduate programs in deaf education, communication sciences and pediatric audiology. The agency s pediatric audiology program includes component analysis, programming, cochlear implant and hearing aid repair services. Central Institute for the Deaf provides a summer program that features speech, language, science, social studies and listening skill classes. It also conducts a variety of workshops on early intervention, speech skills and auditory management. Additionally, the agency participates in art, physical education, music, computer instruction and a variety of special activities, such as tennis, photography, and science and literacy fairs. Central Institute for the Deaf is a member of the United Way and the St. Louis Regional Commerce and Growth Association. The agency is located in St. Louis.
