The remodel South Peninsula Hospital is now complete and open for patient use, including a 1, 300 square foot addition to house a new MRI unit inear the hospitals main entrance. The new Seimens MRI offers advanced, state of the art technology which provides improved flexibililty, speed, resolution and accuracy of MRI studies. It has a wide bore and a super short magnet which allows many studies to be completed with the patients head outside the bore. SPH is one of the first locations on the west coast of the United States to utilize this advanced technology.

Board Certified Physicians. South Peninsula Hospital is underway with a significant facility expansion and renovation. Saturday, February 16, 2008 was the grand opening event of the first phase of construction (east wing) which includes a new Emergency Department, Imaging Department, Specialty Clinic and Admitting area. The new wing is now open and fully functional. Hospital users are asked to use the new access route to the hospital, up Main Street and left on Bayview Avenue, and park in the upper east lot and use the new upper main entrance. The completed project will provide a new patient wing, single occupancy rooms, a rooftop helicopter landing pad and expanded surgery and outpatient areas.

Norton Sound Health Corporation was one of the first Native American health organizations in the country to assume complete responsibility for medical care of the people it serves. The corporation was founded to serve the health care needs of the Inupiat, Siberian Yupik and Yupik people of the Bering Strait region of northwest Alaska. Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome, the only Alaska bush community with a road system, is operated by Norton Sound Health Corporation. Services provided at the more than 30-bed hospital includes laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, dental, audiology, optometry and physical and respiratory therapy. Encompassed within the system are clinics in 15 native Alaskan villages scattered on the coast and islands of the Bering Sea. The corporation was established in 1970.
