The Learning Experience is an early education center for Mission Viejo-area preschoolers. It is a large facility with an outdoor recreation park. The Learning Experience is a private and NAEYC-accredited school with a 23:1 student-teacher ratio. Call for more information or to schedule a tour.
Newhart Middle School offers many programs not common in this day and age. It has wood shop classes and a home economics program, and its music program has been nationally recognized. Another program at Newhart helps new English speakers learn the language.
A product of the Capistrano Unified School District, and having attended San Juan Elementary, Marco Forster Middle School and graduating Capistrano Valley High School, Jeff Jones will begin his first year at Newhart as Principal in the 2010-11 year.
The school is able to use the city of Mission Viejo's nearby baseball, basketball and soccer fields for physical education. The school's mascot is the panther.
Linda Vista Elementary school has been improving its scores over the course of a school year. The school has increased its API (Academic Performance Index) from 804 to 828, a significant increase. Linda Vista is dedicated to spreading equality throughout the campus, and has an expanding PTA that is always looking for new members from the community to join.
Cordillera Elementary School serves students from kindergarten to sixth grade. Cordillera offers a wide array of extracurricular activities for an elementary school, including drama/theater to basketball, in hopes to engage and introduce students to how academic lessons filter beyond the classroom. Parent and community involvement is also encouraged by the staff in order to help Cordillera's students receive a solid foundation in education.
Montevideo Elementary School is a public school with a strong parent-teacher association that stresses cooperation. Montevideo has an intimate campus with lots to offer its students, such as a computer lab, library, and after school activities.
Carl Hankey is a kindergarten through eighth grade school. The middle schoolers are separated from the elementary students. Carl Hankey offers an International Baccalaureate program which feeds into Capistrano Valley High School's IB program. Besides teaching the California standards, it also focuses on foreign language and technology. The program is self funded by parents and a grant from British Petroleum. The school mascot is the hawk. Carl Hankey, an orange rancher, was a school board member for many years and the unofficial weatherman in San Juan Capistrano.
