The Attic offers a unique educational experience for children ages 3 -18, one which supports a sense of self, a passion for learning, community, and childhood through our K-12 program and the Field & Forest Outdoor Preschool program. Many educative practices go into creating our progressive educative model.
We offer a low child:teacher ratio in a multiage environment. Our teachers are passionate, committed to each and every child. We understand the importance of freedom within structure, and of developmentally-appropriate education. Our classes meet only three days per week, to give children and their families time to pursue their interests.
Above all, the Attic does not use grades, rewards, or punishments. This supports the development of intrinsic motivation, a key Attic value. In addition to serving children, the Attic serves as a model learning community. It's has been commonplace to have teachers visiting the Attic from other schools, and the Field and Forest Preschool welcomed over a dozen Preschool teachers for a professional development day in January 2012, to learn about our outdoor child-centered approach.
For Attic kids and alumni, the future is bright. Because of our supporters, the Attic is able to offer 30% of our students tuition assistance, sustain our program, look forward to growth, and reach out to the community at large.
