Founded in 1971 and named after the last person to die of alcholism in the old city jail, the mission of the David P. Hooper Detox Center is to intervene in the process of chemical dependency by providing outreach, sobering and subacute medical detoxification services. The center s programs include the Central City Concern Hooper inebriate emergency response service, an outreach program that picks up inebriated people of the city s strees and delivers them to the center. The Hooper sobering program offers individuals a safe, medically monitored place to sober up and several intervention opportunities. The subacute program includes a 54-bed subacute medical detox program and recovery-oriented services. The David P. Hooper Detox Center is located in Portland, Ore.
