The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission is a six-member bipartisan board that governs the Missouri Department of Transportation. The commission is responsible for planning and maintaining the highway network and other modes of transportation in the state. It specializes in compiling highway statistics, purchasing and leasing land, and preparing and planning estimates. The commission undertakes the supervision of highways and bridges that are constructed, improved and maintained by the state government. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission is also responsible for appointment of secretaries and chief engineers and counsel for the commission. It maintains a location in Willow Springs, Mo.
