The Earlink retail store opened for business in January of 1987 as Sound Solutions at 5212 SE 52nd Avenue in Portland Oregon. This business was a partnership with three people as owners. They dealt with assistive listening and visual alerting products for t he hard-of-hearing and deaf. Sound Solutions vision was to provide those assistive products that make life a little more enjoyable for the hard-of-hearing and deaf but which are not readily available at a local hearing aid office. Over time our product line has grown to include both the personal items people need to live life fully with joy, safety and independence plus a wide range of assistive products to meet the ever increasing demand for greater assistance in public areas like classrooms, churches, training facilities, auditoriums, and the workplace. Our on-line storefront opened in March of 1990 with a small selection of hearing products. In 1992 one of our partners came down with a major health problem and was unable to continue so my wife and I bought her share of Sound Solutions and converted the two separate businesses into a single integrated business under the name of Hearing Resources, our hearing aid dispensing practice. Earlink was used as the main name for our assistive products website. Hearing Resources moved to its current location at 4311 NE Tillamook St, OR 97213 Portland in May of 2000. This new location has a larger and better lighted showroom and includes wheelchair access that was not available in the old location. We are open Monday through Thursday from 9: 00 AM to 7: 00 PM. We are closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday so we can have time to take care of our aging parents. When in the Portland area please drop by to check out the latest in assistive technology. It is the mission of Earlink to be a leader in the field of technology assistance for those who have communication disorders caused by the loss of hearing. Towards this end we strive to combine the best technology which will meet the individuals needs in the fields of hearing science, hearing instrumentation, assistive technology, sound collection and distribution systems with the highest level of professional expertise. Earlink will always keep in mid that our purpose is to provide solutions to help people live productive and independent lives. While our end-user is the person with a communication problem, our clientele includes individuals, businesses, schools, and governmental agencies. Earlink will provide direct services and products to its clientele with marketing emphasis in the Pacific Northwest. Towards this end Earlink will endeavor to provide not just products and services, but also educational efforts to its clientele and the general public. Hearing Resources is owned by Jay and Louise Thurman. We are here to service your hearing communication needs.
