Jerusalem Baptist Church sits at the corner of 26th and P streets, adjacent to the entrance to Rose Park and Rock Creek Parkway in Old Georgetown. The church was founded by Rev. Sandy Alexander after he started the First Baptist Church, also in Georgetown.
Dumbarton United Methodist Church, currently led by Rev. Mary Kay Totty, was originally founded in 1772. It moved to its current site in 1850. The Romanesque design features purple front doors topped by round stained-glass windows, and two small gardens frame the stairs at the church entrance.
Dumbarton was the first Methodist church in Washington, DC, to commit to conducting ceremonies for same-sex couples after a law was passed allowing such marriages in March 2010.
First Georgetown Baptist Church was founded by the Reverend Sandy Alexander, a former slave, in 1862. The cornerstone for the first stone church was laid in 1882, with church members digging the foundation themselves. The church sits next to Rose Park on Dumbarton Street. Worship services are held on Sunday and prayer services are on Wednesday. The church also hosts social events, such as an annual cook out in the summer.
Christ Church, Georgetown is an Episcopal parish first started in Georgetown in 1817 and has occupied its current location since 1818. The present church dates from 1885. Its brick facade hugs the street corner, creating an impressive presence on both 31st and O Streets.
A small courtyard garden framed by a brick wall and trees adjoins the historic building. The Parish Hall, located on O Street, houses the administrative offices and offers space for education and fellowship events. The congregation includes both Georgetown residents and faithful from the extended DC metro area.
The Takoma Park Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Christian protestant church offering worship services and other programs for its members in the community. It music program held during worship services feature a chior, soloists and different chorale groups. Alan DeSilva is the Senior Pastor here. Ministry programs are offered here for kids, teens, adults and families. A bible school program is also offered here for kids. Worship services are held on Sundays at 8:15am and 11am at the Worship Center.
