Friends of the Children-Boston is a mentoring organization providing children from at-risk or underserved communities the support and resources to achieve high academic achievement and strong character development. Its programs offer 12 years of comprehensive mentoring--beginning in first grade and continuing through high school graduation--with the ultimate goal that all children will continue on to college and become successful members of society.

Originally built as a YMCA in 1904, this building has character to spare. The adult program list is extensive and includes activities such as swimming lessons, yoga, karate and an array of dance classes. Senior citizens can loosen up with water aerobics courses, many of which are free to members. Memberships are reasonably priced for individuals and families. Other programs include a pre-school, child care, outreach and youth day camp.
Youth Enrichment Services is a Boston-area youth development organization that introduces kids and teens to the great outdoors through sports. Sports programs offered include skiing, snowboarding, biking, hiking, rock climbing, and others. The organization also offers YES Academy, which is a year-round college prep program.
