Located just east of the Salt Lake Temple, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building is a nice stop on a self-guided tour of Historic Temple Square. Originally named Hotel Utah, the memorial building is currently home to several banquet rooms, the Family Search Center, and a few restaurants. Parking does cost around $10 but you can receive a 3-hour validation if you dine at one of the restaurants located in the building. Typically, October and November would be the ideal months for this. Avoid December, and especially Christmastime, as the building and surrounding area will be filled with locals visiting the square to see the Christmas lights.Admission to the Joseph Smith Memorial BuildingAs with the rest of the buildings located at Temple Square, admission to the memorial building is free. This includes entry to the Family Search Center and the Legacy Theater. Most days feature a pianist playing in the lobby which provides an opportunity to sit and relax for a few minutes before heading to the next attraction.
