Brooklyn Community Housing and Services is a community-based organization that assists the special needs inhabitants of New York City. On site there are segmented housing units offering standard residential apartments to the formerly homeless, a building that serves individuals undergoing psychiatric treatment and a housing site occupied by single mothers. Support staff is there to aid in medical needs and referrals to other city programs.

The organization offers hunting and fishing trips for members as well as NRA approved safety courses for the public. The club house on Pacific Street is a three story brick building equipped with a gun and archery range, full kitchen and projection room.

Vannguard Urban Improvement Association is a non-profit organization formed in 1971 and incorporated in 1975 to provide job skills training and preparation for economically disadvantaged teens and young adults.
Some of its free programs include Progressive Adolescent Vocational Exploration (PAVE) for youth, ages 14-18. PAVE aims to curb high school drop-out rates by developing competencies for alternative career paths and entrepreneurship through computer skills and vocational job training. Other programs include college prep, annual college tours, after school homework assistance, summer day camp and the Youth Employment Program (YEP).

The council serves to improve the lives of low-income, Hispanic and black members of the community. Each day at the center, breakfast and lunch are served and games and activities are held. Assistance is provided to the seniors in obtaining city services.
