the League The Worcester Animal Rescue League was founded in 1912 by a group of women determined to save overworked and abused farm horses. Almost a full century later, their love for animals and the struggle to rescue pets from abuse, neglect, and inhumane treatment continues. WARL is a private, non-profit organization and does not receive any county, state, or federal funding. Our facility relies heavily on the generosity of donors and volunteers. The Worcester Animal Rescue League has grown into the largest animal shelter in Central Massachusetts. The Worcester Animal Rescue League is a limited intake shelter, taking in pets only when enough kennel space is available. The professional staff at the Worcester Animal Rescue League performs temperament and medical evaluations on each pet before adoption. The Worcester Animal Rescue League does not believe in time or space limits for our adoptable pets, and uses every resource available to place each pet. Over 3500 cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies are successfully cared for each year. Abandoned animals with treatable yet expensive veterinary needs, that may have been humanely put to sleep in years past, are given a second chance by receiving the medical treatment they need and deserve.

Deseret Industries has everything you need and lots of what you just can’t live without. We have thousands of new items arriving every day, like clothes, household goods, even furniture. But we also have tons of other treasures like collectibles, toys and games. And if you don’t find what you’re looking for today, come back tomorrow. Our sales floor is always being replenished. Have some extra stuff you don’t need any more? Everything you give helps restore hope in people’s lives. All proceeds go to support job training for our associates and help them gain valuable work experience, then we help them move into permanent, gainful employment in the community. So hand off those hand-me-downs. It’s what keeps us, and the community, going.

The only licensed auto-recycler in the Boston area, Nissenbaum's has been offering a full range of new and used auto parts since 1910.  After a century of business this shop is still in family hands, the fifth and sixth generation of Nissenbaum can be found sleeves rolled up and greasy handed going about business. Inside, stacks of tires, used engines on blocks and boxes of auto parts line every wall.  The helpful employees behind the counter will scrounge up even the most esoteric part for your vehicle.

Anyone looking to adopt a pet should visit Salem's Northeast Animal Shelter, a non-profit agency that does not euthanize animals. The shelter, which opened its new facility in 2008, takes in adoptable dogs and cats surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them, as well as strays found by local officials or rescue groups. In addition, the shelter transports from other states hundreds of homeless dogs that would otherwise be euthanized due to overpopulation. Northeast also rescues satos, mixed breed dogs found wandering the streets of Puerto Rico. Dog and cat adoption fees include spaying/neutering whenever possible. The shelter also participates in community outreach through its Humane Education and Senior Visitation programs.

Students in our schools are struggling now more than ever from problems caused by situational poverty. These problems affecting our students range from living in unstable environments, homelessness, and access to resources. The Giving Closet Project aims to address some of the most basic problems that our students and schools face through simple, effective solutions. While investigating school lost and found procedures, The Giving Closet Project learned that unclaimed lost and found items are often either thrown away or donated to a thrift store to be resold. It quickly became clear that with a little support, schools could not only transform their lost and founds, but also recycle unclaimed items back into their school community. The GCP is the help schools need to launder clothes, identify students in need, and donate items to those students.
