In July 3, 1951 Father Gerald J. Morrissey was commissioned by Cardinal Stritch to form a new parish in the rapidly growing southern section of La Grange and Western Springs. The 440 Catholic families in this territory were being served by St. Francis Xavier Parish. After months of survey, a site for the parish was chosen on the north side of 55th Street between Spring and Stone Avenues. The new parish was canonically erected by the Cardinal Archbishop on October 5, 1951 under the title and patronage of St. Cletus, Pope and Martyr. The newly erected United Auto Workers Civic Enter at 55th and East Avenue provided a temporary home for St. Cletus Parish. On October 21, 1951 some six hundred worshippers attended the first parish Mass in the Union hall. The first building, designed by Mr. Thomas E. Cooke, A.I.A., consisted of a temporary church seating 450 people and two wings containing eight classrooms, a kindergarten, music rooms, and administrative offices. A convent was located on the second floor over the school. St. Cletus School opened in September 1953 with 412 students enrolled in kindergarten through seventh grade. Eigth grade was added the following year and the first class was graduated in June, 1955. The Sisters of St. Joseph of La Grange have staffed the school from the beginning with Sister Mary Wilfrid serving as the first principal, until the Sisters were no longer able to staff our school any longer in 1985. The initial building was dedicated by Cardinal Stritch on April 24, 1954. Plans for the permanent church and rectory were drawn up, and ground was broken in July 1960 for the new church.

"Let us pray" are the words most visible to drivers as they race past the Good Shepherd Catholic Church entrance on Thomasville Road. These three words serve as a reminder that we are a people of prayer, first.Yes, we are the largest parish in the Catholic Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, but more important, we are a representation of the Body of Christ, discerning Gods will in order to bring our lives into greater conformity with the Gospel of Jesus.A parish with humble beginnings preceding Interstate 10 and the population explosion of northeast Tallahassee Good Shepherd celebrated its 30th anniversary in January 2003.A now dynamic collection of more than 2, 500 families and a 15-acre campus, Good Shepherd is truly a "community of small communities, " centered in the Eucharist and committed to ministry. This vision emphasizes a prayerful focus on living the mission of Jesus through spiritual formation, evangelization and ministry carried out through small Christian communities.Nearly 75 different ministries are organized under five categories Leadership, Prayer and Liturgy, Fellowship and Evangelization, and Mercy and Justice.Good Shepherd is just as committed to youth and the Religious Education of both adults and children. Please spend some time exploring Good Shepherds online presence through this web site community and be sure to contact_us with your own news about parish.

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ, and welcome to the web site of Historic Trinity Lutheran Church of the City of Reading. I was called in August, 2003 to serve as Trinitys Pastor and am honored to serve this venerable institution as it continues to be a dynamic congregation in the service of our Lord and Savior. This is a great time to be part of Trinity! We are currently writing the next chapter of this congregations long and storied history. In addition to offering enriching worship and educational opportunities, Trinity is also engaged in a comprehensive Mission and Vision process that will help define and renew the scope and focus of key initiatives in the coming years. Trinity Lutheran Church was founded in 1751 as the first Lutheran Church in the City of Reading. Founded by Henry Melchoir Muhlenburg as a congregation of the "Ministerium of Pennsylvania, "it is now the "mother church"of the city of Reading, and an active, vital congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The present campus, occupying the half block between 6th and Church Streets on Washington, include a 1791 Church and an 1891 education complex, as well as "The Bard House, "a mid 19th-century manse presently used as the office complex for the parish, and formerly occupied as a parsonage. The congregations history is rich and remarkable. In two and a half centuries, its people and buildings have witnessed remarkable events and changes, both within and outside the church. A congregation whose records were kept in parchment books, by quill pens, now has its own web site. Horse drawn carriages that once delivered worshippers to Church on Washington Street have been replaced by the din of automobiles. But what has not changed in this congregations remarkable history has been the ceaseless, unchanging Gospel of Jesus Christ in which its people, its worship and its life have been grounded. The Lord who is "the same yesterday, today and forever"has been present through it all from Revolutionary War times, when the Church served as a hospital for fallen soldiers, to the present time, where this same church serves as a beacon of hope and love in the midst of the city.
