At 33,000-square feet, White Oak Community Recreation Center is the largest recreation facility in the county.
Among the building's features are a basketball court, a fitness center, a climbing wall, special rooms for art and culinary classes and a banquet hall.
The center also features programming for people over 55. Available Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until January 2013, when it will open for an extra day on Friday, the senior program creates fitness, wellness and social opportunities.
The center opened with limited hours on May 14 and a dedication ceremony was held June 23, 2012.
Located on Lewis Lane, the Havre de Grace Senior Activity Center is one of six centers throughout Harford County. Baltimore Clayworks, located next to the Enoch Pratt Free Library (branch 21), is a nonprofit organization that aims to build community through art. The beautiful building is home to workshops, classes, community meetings, art exhibits and artist-run community service programs. The C&O Canal Great Falls Tavern is an historic site and visitors' center located on MacArthur Boulevard in Potomac. It offers various types of educational and interpretive programs throughout the year, as well as boat rides in the spring, summer and early fall. These include mule drawn canal boat rides, public canal boat rides and private boat rides.
Schrom Hills Lake Park, located on Hanover Parkway, offers wide open areas and award-winning trees. The park has numerous facilities, including athletic fields, a playground area and a covered picnic pavilion. There is a soccer field and exercise stations on walking paths. The community building has a capacity of 20 and can be reserved for meetings or events. The picnic pavilion can be reserved as well by Greenbelt residents and businesses.
Plum Gar Community Recreation Center offers a wide range of classes, activities and programs for residents in the area. The location has numerous features, including a gymnasium area, kitchen, conference room and lounge area. Open gym memberships are available for residents ages 16 and older. Some activities include sports classes, crafts classes, as well as dance and music classes. The location also has a conference room. The Kentlands Mansion, a country estate in the heart of the Kentlands community and across from the Arts Barn, offers an upscale rental facility for weddings, birthdays and many other events. It features several ornate rooms, a covered porch and a caterers kitchen. Beautifully landscaped grounds often serve as the backdrop for prom and wedding photos.
Carroll County Agriculture Center is an expansive, indoor facility designed to accomodate a range of community needs. Owen Brown Community Center is located just off of Cradlerock Way. This center is for local Howard County and Maryland events and has a conference room, kitchen, lobby and main event area. F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre is a 446-seat theatre. It hosts both community theatrical groups and professional touring companies. This theater can be rented for private events.
This center features a full-sized gymnasium, a weight/exercise room, an art room, a social hall, a conference room, a lobby/lounge area and a community room. A variety of recreational opportunities and classes are available for all ages, including pottery. Essex American Legion Post 148 is a local post of the American Legion, an organization representing veterans of the United States armed forces. Post 148 has a kitchen which is open Friday through Sunday and serves such meals as cheese burgers, fish sandwiches, chicken breast sandwiches, fried shrimp, sweet potato fries and freedom fries. There is also a bar which has a smaller menu and is always available. The bar menu contains hot dogs, pizza, pretzels, rib sandwiches and more. It hosts private events such as live music and parties and is equipped with a pool table.
The Takoma Park Community Center features an art room, game room, teen room and an auditorium that hosts film screenings and performances. The facilities are located on Maple Avenue in a building that formerly housed government offices.
