Like many other churches in Lemont, St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church began in the mid-19th century when the area was being settled by European immigrants. After decades of growth, a fire destroyed the inside of the church in 1918. During the rebuilding process, the congregation used Bethany Lutheran Church's facilities to hold its worship services.

Today, the St. Matthew congregation still operates in the rebuilt facility on Lemont Street. In addition to weekly worship services, the church offers Bible studies, youth groups, Sunday School, music ministries and service opportunities.

Grace Fellowship Church, one of Mokena's newer churches, continuously seeks out ways to connect with its congregation. Instead of a choir, it has a worship team that plays contemporary church songs on guitars and drums. When a recent study of British men found that singing in church was a deterrent for them to attend, Grace Fellowship introduced an earlier, "2-The-Point" service, which is the regular service with the music removed (services with music continue at their regular time).

Grace Fellowship also has youth, men's and women's ministries, Bible study and small groups.

If you or someone you know is suffering from colon cancer, you understand the toll it can take on a person’s daily life. What you might not know is that this disease is preventable; annual exams will increase the chances of catching and removing benign polyps or cysts before they turn cancerous. That’s why the members at Riding for a Reason in Granite City, IL, have formed this non-profit organization—to take their love for riding ATVs and use it to help increase colorectal cancer awareness and prevention. They also help raise money for families and friends with loved ones suffering from this devastating disease. Their first event, held in 2015, was an overwhelming success for the non-profit organization; they raised over $17,000 with 600 people riding 237 bikes. This success encouraged them to continue the tradition of side-by-side ATV and UTV riding with their family, friends, and community members. In 2016, they raised over $60,000 with over 1,200 people riding 652 bikes. The next celebration is going to be held on March 27 and 28 of 2020. Tickets will go on sale starting on December 31 for $55 per person—children under 12 years of age get in for free! Your ticket includes a T-shirt, goody bag, trail ride, and a chance to see one of their numerous concerts. Feel free to enter the raffle at $25 per ticket for a chance to win one of two customized buggies. Gear up your ATVs and get ready for a rip-roaring time for a good cause at Riding for a Reason. While having the time of your life, you can feel good knowing that you’re contributing to raising awareness for colon cancer prevention. Call (314) 614-1911 or visit them online to learn more about this non-profit organization today.
