Chartered by the Connecticut state legislature in 1882, the Knights of Columbus is a fraternal benefit society and one of the largest Catholic organizations. It is responsible for providing financial aid to members and their families. The organization offers assistance to the sick, disabled and needy. The Knights of Columbus coordinates various educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, and war and public relief projects. It operates through more than 13,000 councils and over 1 million members in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Poland, Puerto Rico, Guam, Cuba and the Philippines. The Knights of Columbus organizes fundraiser and blood donation camps. Its United in Charity fund provides aid to families suffering from various natural disasters.
