It’s been several years since the Douglas County Courthouse moved its location to Hospital Drive, but the old courthouse building on Bankhead Highway is still a great asset to the county and the community. Today, the Old Douglas County Courthouse, with its unique look, is now home to the Douglas County Museum of History and Art, as well as the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department. It's also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Duluth History Museum is the place to discover the history of the city of Duluth. Located in the beautiful Victorian-era Strickland Building, the museum, also the home of the Duluth Historical Society, houses archives and exhibits that tell the rich story of the town. You can learn about Duluth's heritage from its founding to the most recent history. Admission to the museum is only $3 for adults and $1 for students, and special tours can be arranged upon request. The Martin Luther King Jr. Birth Home is at 501 Auburn Ave. in the MLK Jr. Historical Site. It is the place where King was born in 1929 and has a great legacy. The home is operated in partnership with the MLK National Historic Site, the National Park Service, and Ebenezer Baptist Church. You can go on a tour and learn about the life of MLK Jr. Tours are guided by a National Park Service ranger so call or visit www.nps.gov for full details.
