Puppet Works puts on performances with puppets every weekend at 12:30pm and 2:3 pm. Located at the corner of 4th Street and 6th Avenue, Puppet Works requires reservation via phone. Currently playing at the Park Slope location: Beauty & the Beast.
The Piermont Public Library was founded in September of 1896, but had no permanent home for its first years. Now, over 100 years later, the library is at its third location on Flywheel Park West. The new structure was completed in March of 2007, and is named in honor of Dennis P. McHugh, a New York City firefighter who was killed in the events of September 11. His family donated $500,000 toward the construction of the library.
Since its 2007 move, the renamed Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library has expanded its collection and functioned as a community hub.
The library’s mission is to assemble educational and recreational material; to serve the community as a source of reliable information; to provide a place for the open exchange of ideas and critical thought; and to identify community needs and provide programs of service to meet such needs.
The library engages with the community by hosting art exhibits and film showings and offering programs for adults and children.
The library also offers a variety of services, including:
- Family museum passes to the Guggenheim Museum, Museum of the City of New York, Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum, Paley Center for Media, Children’s Museum of Manhattan and the Intrepid Sea, Air and space Museum
- Collection and Services: Books, Audiobooks, Ebooks, DVDs, Music CDs, Research databases, Online continuing education, Online language learning (online services require a Piermont Public Library card)
Founded in 1963, the National Maritime Historical Society has been educating the public about our nation's vast maritime heritage for more than 50 years. Its national headquarters can be found at 5 John Walsh Boulevard on the bottom floor of the same building that houses Crystal Bay Seafood & Company. Membership with this highly esteemed group includes a subscription to its quarterly journal Sea History, 10 percent discounts on all NMHS merchandise, an official NMHS membership card and opportunites to participate in cruises and other special programs. The Hampton Bays Library has been in service since 1960. This facility is updated with computers and a collection of over 70,000 books, CDs, audiobooks and movies. You can also donate books to the library and there is a book sale every Saturday.
