The Serbian Orthodox Church established itself in Pittsburgh in 1906 and since then has been a guide and community resource for Serbia's Christian expatriates and their descendents. The Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral on Maxwell Drive hasn't changed since it was built in 1971. About 400 families are members.
The cathedral offers Saturday confession times and a Sunday service but also an assortment of other activities, such as a ladies auxiliary, a men's club, Sunday school and the Holy Trinity Cathedral Choir. The cathedral itself, located in the Borough of Whitehall, is a beautiful piece of architecture with multiple levels of seating and an impressively high ceiling.
Dating back to the 1920s, Our Lady of Lebanon has served generations of Easton's large Lebanese community. While its Saturday mass is conducted in English, attendees at the church's Sunday service will hear the mass in Aramaic, which was, according to pastor Father Paul Damien, "the language of Jesus Christ."
For more than 160 years, the Venice Presbyterian Church has provided worship services and opportunities for active community involvement. Three services are held each Sunday morning, with childcare available for newborns through 2-year-olds during those times. Adult and youth choirs meet weekly. Additional activities and programs include ministries for all ages, volunteer opportunities, youth groups, Narcotics Anonymous and men's dartball.
Bible Baptist Church of Southampton is located on Street Road near the corner of Trowbridge Drive. It is a Baptist church offering several services a week open to all people. The Lehigh Valley Grace Brethren Church is a Christian fellowship with offers weekend services, educational programs for men and women and special church and community events. The Church has an active youth group.
Christ Lutheran Church is on Main Street near the Shoppes at Hellertown. Christ Lutheran offers two weekly services (traditional and contemporary), Sunday school, Bible study groups, and various other weekly and monthly events. In the late 1950s, the Presbytery of Philadelphia looked out into the suburbs and saw the future. As the population shifted outward in the ensuing years, the church was ready, having bought six acres on Route 202 in New Britain. Today, the Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church is led by Rev. W. Douglas Hood, Jr. On Sundays, traditional service is held at 9am, while an informal service starts at 10:30am.
Oakmont Presbyterian Church is located on the corner of Pennsylvania Ave. and Fifth St. The present church building was dedicated in 1905 with just 25 members. Further remodeling to accommodate the growing membership and needs of the church took place in 1964; the congregation has since grown to its current 600 members. The church is very active in the community, offering Vacation Bible School, a book club, recycling collection, study groups and a monthly newsletter.
A certified historical landmark significant enough to rate its own sign pointing the way on Greentree Road, St. Luke's has been "a church without a congregation" since 1930, yet remains an important part of the local character. One-hour tours may be booked; the Church may also be reserved for weddings. The Church also hold an annual Easter service--all are welcome.
The Church of the Redeemer is located in Springfield right off West Springfield Road. The church is part of the Diocese of Pennsylvania and serves the Episcopal Community. It holds worship services multiple times on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings.
At the corner of Frederick Avenue and Broad Street, St. Stephen's Church is in the heart of Sewickley, but its members and visitors come from all around Pittsburgh. There are programs for men and women, young adults, students and children. All are welcome at the services.
The McKinley Memorial Baptist Church, which opens its doors for everyone, was founded in 1902 and offers a variety of ministries in which the entire family can partake. This includes Bible study; study groups for children, men and women; Sunday school; choir; and missionary programs. The congregation is very welcoming. The church is located on a quiet street, and there is ample parking.
Camilla Hall is the convent nursing and retirement home of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. There are many volunteer opportunities available here. The nursing home is also known as The Powerhouse of Prayer.
Proud to have active group centered around spirituality, Church of Christ offers many programs in addition to their weekly worship services. A church-sponsored trip to the nearby Christian camp provides programs and resources for youths to grow spiritually. Additionally, men's retreats, women's retreats and family camps are offered.
