Community Awareness Network For A Drug-Free Life And Environment (CANDLE) is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1982. Its central mission is to prevent substance abuse and violence among youth in the local community. CANDLE offers young children, teenagers and parents educational programs that encourage, support and promote healthier lifestyles and opportunities.

Rockland Family Shelter is a private, nonprofit, grassroots organization that serves domestic violence and sexual assault victims and their families. It operates a rape crisis center that provides individual and group counseling services to victims and family members. The shelter s outreach and education program offers free presentations and seminars on domestic, dating and sexual violence to middle and high schools, colleges, community organizations and private enterprises. Rockland Family Shelter also assists victims of violent crime with counseling, compensation for medical expenses, lost wages replacement of essential personal property, transportation expenses to and from court appearances and the cost of residing at a domestic shelter. In addition, it offers bilingual and bicultural services to Latino families and Spanish-speaking battered women. Rockland Family Shelter is located in New City, N.Y.

William E. De Bevoise Jr. American Legion Post 1682 is the American Legion Post serving New Castle, part of Rockland County's Chapter 333. Members meet at 7:30pm on the third Thursday of each month at the post, which is just off Route 304 in New City, opposite Clarkstown Town Hall and the Clarkstown Police & Courts building. Veterans and visitors alike are welcome.

The post sponsors the annual Memorial Day Parade in New City and has a scholarship program for relatives of post members. Additionally, the post sponsors local high school students for the annual "Boys State" summer program, which provides teens with learning experience that focuses on how the American Constitutional form of government operates.

Founded more than 50 years ago by a group of caring parents, ARC now serves more than 1,000 individuals with developmental disabilities from birth through the senior years. With a professional staff of 600 plus, ARC continues to provide services and supports with the compassion and dedication upon which it was built. ARC recognizes the value of every individual we serve and understands that each person is a member of a unique family unit. An active volunteer board of directors and a volunteer foundation board are vital aspects of the agency.

Established in 1970, Volunteer Counseling Services is a community-based social service agency that offers counseling and conflict resolution services. It offers parenting classes for mothers and fathers who may experience difficulty parenting their children due to a lack of understanding about abuse, neglect and effective parental guidance. The organization also offers a program that includes group classes and individual counseling sessions for parents who are separating or divorced.
