The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, also known as WHEDA, is an independent state authority that works with lenders to provide low-cost financing for housing and small business development in Wisconsin. The authority offers several below-market rate financing products for construction, acquisition and rehabilitation of affordable rental housing, including tax credit development financing, preservation of existing affordable housing, and housing for the elderly and people with disabilities. The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority administers the allocation and compliance monitoring of the federal low-income housing tax credit program, which provides incentives for the development of multifamily affordable rental housing. The authority also offers asset management services.
