YMCA Camp Oakasha has been providing exciting day camps for children ages five to 15, in the surrounding communities of Waterbury, Middlebury, Oxford and Southbury for more than a decade. Kids can participate in safe and fun activities like archery, swimming, arts & crafts, sports, group games, boating, tower climbing, and much more.
The Middletown Youth Services Bureau offers a number of programs and services to youths in the community including teen-empowerment programs, a service group for high school students, a peer-to-peer mentoring program, a leadership program, life skills courses and much more. It has supported local educational programs and initiatives directed toward youths in Middletown through the Educational Incentives Challenge Grant for almost 35 years.
The Boys & Girls Club is a non-profit youth service agency which strives to provide quality after-school care to Valley youth ages 6 to 18. Its mission is to help all children reach their fullest potential by providing activities in the arts, physical fitness, drama, computers, homework help, tutoring, recreation, and social development. The club served more than 3,000 members last year at four locations, providing activities to more than 500 children per day.
This center is very helpful for busy parents with young children. There are three locations in Meriden and each one accepts Care 4 Kids, a program that helps families pay for child care. The Crown Street location cares for 60 children ages 3 to 5 and has a staff-to-children ratio of 1:10. It is funded by the Department of Social Services and charges based on a sliding scale. Prices range from $8 to $95 per week.
