Pilates Sports Center was established by Kelli Altounian and Andromeda Trumbull and voted the best of Encino for Pilates in 2009 by the US Commerce Association. First Field Farm is a hunter and jumper equestrian facility that has made its home on Dumont Avenue in Cerritos since 1993. This facility is run by Carolyn Biava and Janet McDonald. These two businesswomen have a combined 65 years of career experience in training hunting and jumping horses for competition, consignment and sales.
First Field Farm offers full training, room and board, grooming, a full riding school program (group or private lessons) and horse show services. The Farm is known for its local and national championship history in Pre-Green, Regular Working, Junior, Adult-Amateur, Amateur Owner, Pony, and Children's Hunters at "AA" shows.
The facility can hold 50 horses and currently boards 35. It has an automated flyspray system, rubber-matted box stalls, hot walkers, turnouts and lighted arenas.
This is the original location of Dawn Barnes Karate Kids, specializing in martial arts classes for children from 2 to 17 years old. The technique taught here is Gozen, which means "morning time" and "in front of you," and was developed by Barnes specifically for kids. Programs are divided according to age, with Karate Kitties parent/child classes for 2- to 3-year-olds, Tiger Tots, Lions, Dragons, the invitation-only Black Belt Club and the Master's Class for Black Belts. All ages and skill levels are taught here. Universal offers an entire day of individual appointments on Fridays. The gym is centered around meeting the clientele's fitness goals in addition to training in martial arts.
With a modest entrance, Markley's boasts a large indoor store with a long shooting range running along its side. The store sells, among other things, stuffed bears, safes, and many different types of guns. While they only rent out handgun caliber firearms on the range, from small 22's to the 44 magnum, patrons can bring rifles to shoot if they please. The store, which is a maze of guns and ammo, sells firearms (some on consignment) shooting accessories, ammo and reloading supplies.
Bachelor parties can be held at this range, but participants under 21 must be accompanied by a parent.
